Welcome to the Database's 'Orientation' page.
Here is where you will discover how to use the Fleet Library to the fullest advantage.
What do all of the different formats of text mean?
The database is compiled from several sources, both canon and non-canon. For your ease, non-canon information will always be presented in italics, while canon text will be in a normal font. The term 'canon' is used of the Star Trek episodes and motion pictures, and are acknowledged by the Trek universe as 'officially' having happened. However, non-canon information, coming from sources such as novels, technical manuals, screenplays, and certain magazines, are not considered to have any true bearing on what you see on screen.
Can I assist with the Database?
Yes! You most certainly can.
The way that you can provide support to the website is by 'fact-checking' the database's existing information. For example, if the database bibliography shows that all information from the novel 'House of Cards' has been added to the site, you can reread the book, checking to make certain that we added in all of the facts. Unfortunately, at this time we cannot accept completely independent work, such as sending all of the information on a book not yet added to the database into Diversity Fleet.
I found something missing! You didn't have ...
If the information comes from a source that has not yet been listed on the bibliography, then we readily admit that we don't have that information loaded yet, but we will try to get to it soon. If, however, the fact comes from a source that is mentioned, please let us know, and we'll add it as soon as we can.
How do I read this bibliography, anyway?
We have each of the sources listed in a neat, concise order, so that you will have the best chance of making sense of it. Each subsection is clearly identified, so you should have no trouble deciphering it.
When you see a number following an episode or book, it means either the minutes/seconds, or the page number where we ceased logging data. Either the Vulcan working on the project suddenly remembered that Enterprise was airing in syndication that evening, or the Ferengi on duty suddenly heard that there was a strip of Latinum laying on the sidewalk a block away and had to leave the domicile suddenly.
That should about take care of your orientation, Sir. Happy reading!
